------------ Naga

Naga's the first person that Lina traveled with before she met up with Gourry. Naga is chunky, has an awful laugh that strikes fear in the hearts of many, and makes fun of all other anime women that are just like her. Naga is a lot more greedy than Lina and likes to call herself "Lina Inverse's worst rival," but that's only in her head. Many people call her "goldfish feces" since all she does is follow Lina around.

Naga is constantly trying to be better at anything than Lina and always makes remarks about Lina being very naive. I love the relationship that they have; they're hilarious together. Their relationship is on the terms of "I'm with you only if it's an advantage to me" and they both turn against each other many times. Usually they end up fighting against each other instead of alongside each other. Lina specializes in fire and Naga specializes in water, so their attacks always cancel each other out. Lina usually casts a fire spell and Naga casts an ice spell with the same power, so both the attacks hit each other and disappear.

Though Lina and Naga have a funny relationship, I can't help but feel sorry for Lina for having such a burden. Hearing Naga's laughter is enough to get Lina shaken up and often times Naga does nothing more than annoy the living daylights out of Lina. She usually ends up screwing up Lina's plans by wanting to be a part of them. Naga is fairly stupid and doesn't pick up on things, and frustrates Lina to the limits of her tolerance.

------------ Gourry

Gourry "rescued" Lina from a bunch of bandits one day, even though she could've easily rescued herself. He was expecting her to be a beautiful damsel in distress, but instead he commented on how he found a "flat-chested little girl." Gourry had no idea that she was actually Lina Inverse, the famous sorceress, so he offered to escort her to town and "find her parents." Soon, Lina found out that Gourry possessed the legendary Sword of Light. She swore to stay by his side until he gave up and handed Lina the sword.

Soon enough, a bit of romance blooms. It's obvious that these two care for each other, though Lina doesn't really show it the normal way. Gourry makes stupid comments and he usually gets knocked over the head by Lina. Lina's way of showing affection is by beating him up.

Though at the beginning of the series their relationship was like a big brother to a little sister (Gourry treated Lina like a little child then), they eventually grew out of that and actually share a kiss. While other people in the Slayers group come and go, Lina and Gourry are always seen around, sticking together. Lina blames it on the Sword of Light, saying she'll stay with Gourry until he gives up and hands the sword to her, while Gourry simply states that he's her protector and will most likely protect her all his life. Lina often blushes when he says that and declares that she doesn't need a protector, but Gourry's not to be persuaded. Usually it's these two who stumble upon everyone else and get them caught up in another crazy and off the wall catastrophe involving dark lords.

------------ Zelgadis

Zelgadis is half Chimera and half-human. So he's part demon. That's all because of Rezo's doing though, and Zel is actually a good guy. Lina first meets Zel when she has the Philosopher's Stone and he wants it from her. He ends up taking her hostage when it's "that time of the month," rendering her unable to use her magic, but she had planted the Philosopher's Stone on Gourry. Eventually she learns about Zel and they become friends.

Lina brings excitement and adventure into Zel's life. She's energetic, funny, and she's one of the only people that can make him laugh. He's more of the serious type and he's more focused on his real goal, which is to find a cure for his Chimera-ness. Lina really helps lighten his mood a lot of the time by making jokes and lightening the atmosphere. Lina never looked at Zel as a freak as most humans end up doing, and I think he appreciates that a lot. She's always eager to find his cure (usually it involves treasure, too) but sticks with Zel through all his hopeful quests and failures.

Many people say that these two are a good couple, and I can't help but agree because they are really opposite each other, and as they say, opposites attract. There might be a chance that Zel likes Lina (there are hints here and there). Lina is one of the only people (and one of the first people) who accepted Zel the way he was and didn't see him as a monster because of his chimera-ness. She's also the first to make him laugh. I think to Zel, Lina is someone unpredictable and filled with life. As he once said, she's "one in a million."

------------ Amelia

Amelia is the justice-freak of the group. She can get a bit annoying (especially when she's with her father at the beginning) but she matures and grows as the series progresses. At first, Lina didn't think much of Amelia except that she was just irritating, but a kind of sisterly bond grew between the two later on. Amelia looks up to Lina while Lina is protective of Amelia in return, teaching her spells and how to be a good fighter, cheering her up when she needs it.

They make a great team, Amelia and Lina. They can both be goofy and hyper together and let loose. Amelia somewhat balances out Lina's wicked side, which comes out of hiding every once in a while for a bout of greediness or gluttony. :P Amelia's the one who often scolds Lina for being greedy or what not, and babbles on about justice. Though Lina is sometimes insensitive with her words, Amelia accepts it as simply being Lina's nature. Unlike Sypheel, Amelia never gets offended by Lina's words. She always looks up to Lina and watches her closely, too. Amelia picked up on Lina and Gourry's feelings for each other even before they did.

------------ Sypheel

Lina really doesn't have much of a relationship with Sypheel. Amelia felt that Sypheel threatened Lina and Gourry's relationship, but neither Lina nor Gourry thought so. They actually weren't thinking of themselves as a couple. Neither of them were truly aware of their feelings for each other at that point.

Sypheel is the exact opposite of Lina. She's very much a feminine girl. She's more vulnerable and softer; while Lina is harsh Sypheel is calm, down to earth, and soft-spoken. She's shy while Lina is outgoing and loud. She takes things much more seriously than Lina and seems to take on stress and hardship with a much greater magnitude than Lina's lightheartedness allows her to. Sypheel was able to pick up on Lina and Gourry's feelings for each other a little bit, and often questioned whether Lina was in love with Gourry or not. She felt deep down that if Gourry loved Lina, she wouldn't be able to compete.

Though these two didn't have much of a connection (Lina never particularly liked Sypheel's timid nature), Lina understood how sensitive and vulnerable Sypheel was. She tried to make her words softer and watched what she was saying more; she was self-conscious. If Sypheel looked like she was sad, Lina would get worried and ask, "Did I say something wrong?" She cared if she hurt Sypheel's feelings, and she doesn't show that kind of care often. I personally think that Sypheel picked up on these attempts and was able to see that Lina was a much nicer person than she made herself out to be.

------------ Xellos

Xellos gets on Lina's nerves a lot of the time because whenever Lina wants to find out something, she wants to find out right then and there. But instead Xellos says, "It's a secret!" and gets quite a rise out of Lina. He says it's because it makes things more interesting when he doesn't give a straight answer. Lina blows her top whenever he refuses to answer things and gives a smart ass remark instead. Xellos loves Lina's extreme reactions.

The strange thing is, Xellos only allows Lina to touch him in any way. For example, when he makes a smart ass remark, Lina attacks him and puts him into a headlock. No one else would be able to even touch Xellos; he'd have phased out before they would've gotten their hands around him. Either his master Xelas orders him to let Lina have her way with him (supposedly he meets up with her to keep an eye on Lina) so that he wouldn't anger her, or Xellos simply likes the attention. Either way, Xellos is quite a guy with an impenetrable mask. Lina and Xellos have a strange relationship with a mutual knowledge and respect of the other's power. Lina knows Xellos' true power, and what he could do if he set his mind to it. She keeps in mind that he's a Mazoku, and isn't trustworthy.

Lina has short patience and can't stand the antics that Xellos pulls most of the time. This makes Xellos even happier. The faster she gets angry, frustrated, and all those other yummy emotions that Mazoku feed off of, the better. He adores getting a rise out of her. He kisses her on the cheek just to see her reaction. He's a smart ass just to have her scream and rampage and put him into a headlock. It's like a middle school flirt, where the guy constantly annoys the girl to get attention from her, by putting bugs into her hair or what not. To Lina, Xellos is an annoyance and someone to be wary of, because he could help her one minute, and then turn on her in another.

------------ Martina

Martina is out to curse Lina. Simple as that. The two first met when Lina blew up Martina's castle along with her whole country. So, according to Martina, she is doomed to live in starvation and poverty forever. Everything that happens to Martina, whoever's fault it is, she blames it on Lina, no matter the circumstance.

Martina is extremely boy-crazy and gets dangerously jealous of Lina when Xellos pays more attention to her. She even declared Gourry as her fiancé when she first saw him! Even if Martina runs off a cliff by herself, she'll blame it on Lina (believe me, she's done it). The point of Martina's whole existence, after Lina blew up her inheritance, is to make Lina's life a living hell. She has an idol called Lord Zoalmegustar, and always prays to it to curse Lina in one way or another. Many times Martina's curses actually work the slightest bit. They work, but they backfire and instead make the world a living hell for both Lina and Martina herself.

Martina tries to find every possible occasion to prove that she's better than Lina. She played against Lina in Brass Rackets, a tennis-like game, only to anger Lina and caused her to cast the Dragon Slave on her. Meanwhile, Lina never gives up. Martina may try something unfair to further her revenge cause, but Lina stands through the whole thing, strangling Martina sometimes in the process. Many a time Martina drives Lina literally up the walls in frustrations. While Martina's curses and various other schemes didn't work on Lina, I'm sure in the long run she'll cause Lina to lose her hair much faster later in life. Though Martina tries to curse Lina all the time and declares herself Lina's rival in everything, in the end they find some strange sort of companionship. They even act alike on some rare occasions.

------------ Filia

Filia and Lina become close friends the more they spend time together in the TRY series. They remind me of Rei and Usagi from Sailormoon in that they are constantly squabbling with each other. It's a pattern: Lina always gets off on the wrong foot with people before she ends up being friends with them.

While the two are alike in personality (both are hot-headed and violent; episodes of Filia turning into a dragon and wreaking havoc on the world come to mind), Filia is almost the opposite of Lina in her policies, beliefs, and the way she thinks. For example, when Lina, Filia, and Gourry are all thrown into a dungeon, Lina uses fire magic to melt the bars and escape. Filia stops her and says, "Don't make yourself guiltier when you're innocent in the first place!" Lina backs herself up by saying that they've got to get out of there somehow, and then they go into a huge squabbling fit.

Filia is more tense and serious about life while Lina is dramatically laid back. Filia is definitely more feminine and high strung in comparison to Lina, who is more of a "go with the flow" kind of person. While Filia spends time worrying about what's to come in the future, Lina takes the future as it comes to her. Filia and Lina's friendship grows through the TRY series, but what I found a bit strange is that Amelia and Filia don't get along quite as well as Lina and Filia do. Filia and Amelia don't have much contact with each other while Filia's always on Lina's case.

------------ Valgaav

Valgaav is out to kill Lina. It's that simple, really.

Valgaav has been misguided about Lina, much like the rest of the world. He hates her because he thinks that she killed Gaav (his master), while actually, Hellmaster Phibrizzo killed him. The only problem is that Valgaav doesn't know and thinks that everything is Lina's fault. Because of this, he is constantly trying to get revenge on Lina for killing Gaav. While he's trying to acquire the Sword of Light from Gourry, he personally wants to get revenge on Lina Inverse by his own hand, for the sake of Gaav. He bullies Lina around quite a bit and doesn't hold back at all. When they first met, Lina was taken aback by Valgaav's strength. The only thing that stopped Valgaav from eliminating Lina from the face of the earth at that first chance was Xellos, who came right in time and stopped him.

I personally like Valgaav as a character, but I'm sure Lina doesn't like him much. I'm not exactly positive what she thinks of him. She doesn't hate him because she's not sure what his intentions are at the beginning of TRY. As TRY progressed, Filia connected more with Valgaav because she was a Golden Dragon and he an Ancient Dragon. While Filia grew to be sympathetic of Valgaav, I think Lina stood fairly neutral in her view of him.
